Ayurvedic Breakfast Recipe: Stewed Apples

Create the recipe that Sahajan founder, Lisa Mattam, swears by!

Almost every morning at the office is filled with the delicious aroma of Lisa's go-to breakfast, Stewed Apples. In Ayurveda, digestion is likened to a fire and the more powerful the fire, the healthier the gut and guess what...this bowl of apples is the perfect way to light the fire.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 2 whole cloves
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 Organic Apple (our faves are sweeter varieties like Gala, Golden Delicious, Pink Lady or Fuji)

Directions

  1. Start boiling water and spices in a small saucepan
  2. In the meantime, peel, core and chop apple into bite-size pieces
  3. Add the apple to hot water, bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes or until the apple is soft/translucent
  4. Enjoy with the liquid or serve over cooked oats.
