4 Ayurvedic Tips To Transition To Spring
According to the science of Ayurveda, we are meant to transition as the seasons transition. As the snow is melting and the air is warming, the new season of Spring brings a new spring in our step and is characterized by Kapha dosha related to earth and water. The lethargy and hibernation of winter is starting to leave us and in this season, we crave and need time in nature, fresh fruits and more activity.
Here are 4 recommendations to transition to Spring.
1) Do a cleanse
In Ayurvedic tradition, a cleanse for the body and mind are experienced at the beginning of the season. Clean your room, clean your pantry (bye bye processed foods, ok maybe not my dairy milk), clean your mind (start journaling, try mindfulness, dance your worries away) and of course, cleanse your face (I wouldn’t be a good founder if I didn’t say that).
2) Get into action
Think of adding more warm water, increase your activity level (hello, long nature hikes) and eat foods that are nourishing and easy to digest. In Spring, Ayurveda recommends adding lemon, ginger, turmeric and black pepper to the diet, as they stimulate and detox.
3) Strike a pose
If you are an avid yogi, yoga poses or asanas are likely in your daily repertoire. If you are not, consider these 3 movements / poses which help to invigorate and stimulate.
Heating and energy: enhancing postures like Navasana (boat pose)
any twist poses or adding a Sun Salutation to your morning which will help to relieve the sluggishness left behind from winter.
4) Sleep
In Ayurveda, Sleep is the Mother Goddess. As a mother myself, with kids online, I don’t always honour this Goddess. I want to watch tv when everyone is asleep so I can finally have time that is my own but I do pay the price every time I do it. Ayurveda recommends following a circadian rhythm of sleep at 10pm and wake by 6am so that you mirror the sun.
